Cheap for a reason
Pros: One of the cheapest apartment options in the state.
Comparatively little crime. You don't need to worry about getting robbed here.
Trash and Sewer are bundled with rent. Electricity and gas are billed from the town and cost about 50-60$ a month
No hidden fees. What you see is what you pay.
Off street parking and plenty of parking spaces
Cons: DSL Internet is very slow(20mb max), and expect a multi-day outage at least once a month
No property manager. If you have any issues, you... will need to call the main branch and wait for them to send over a temporary manager.
Frequent power outages. If you work from home, make sure to save your work frequently and make sure to check your breaker.
Water issues. I didn't have hot water for 3 weeks while I waited for the main branch to get someone down to the property. The water pressure is very low and is hard water, so many of the faucets are coated with calcium deposits. When I left, I had hot water but the water heater was set above legal limits.
No way to contact anyone online. You can not request maintenance, and the property email seems to be ignored. You have to pay rent via check, they do not accept cash or online payment.
Loud. The property is located right next to a military compound and the school playground. Wake up to bugles and spend the rest of the day listening to children screaming. At night neighbors tend to listen to music until around 11pm.
Middle of nowhere. The closest fast food restaurant is about 30 minutes away a town over. The closest taco bell is about 100 miles away. There is nothing to do here, gas is about 10-20% more expensive, and food is about 80-100% more expensive.
Extremely conservative area. A lot of Trump signs around town. I would strongly avoid living here if you aren't straight/white.
Paperwork issues. Due to a lack of a permanent property manager, most of the residents here have not received a lease agreement or any other contracts.
Apartments are a bit run down and are a bit dirty. When I moved in I had to clean piles of flies off off of window sills and pull cat turds out of the dishwasher. There are still a lot of holes in the walls and paint spills on the carpets. They also have a bit of a unique smell.
It is a decent amount of space for the price, but you'll need to be comfortable living without luxuries. I suggest paying a little extra to live in town with better infrastructure.
