My apartment was built in 1952 as housing for members of the Army National Guard in my city. It is a second floor wonder with thick windows, very old tile floors(which are due this year for retiling), and a modern yet small bathroom, with old fashioned radiator heat which has been upgraded to a relatively modern system (instead of the original steam heat from the radiators of its day). It has good closet space in the living room, hallway, and bedroom with fold out doors in the bedroom and... hallway closets and a wooden door to the closet in the living room, and a large pantry for food and other storage, a stove that has been very functional over the past 17 years, and the electrical outlets have been upgraded in recent years, along with foam insulation installed between the walls and the brick outside. Wooden doors go to the bedroom and bathroom and both are lockable. While it does have an electrical quirk I noticed during previous power outages(ie, one portion of the apartment may retain power while other portions may not, having to do with how the lines were connected to the grid as opposed to circuit breaker issues), the electrical systems overall work well. The shower is a shower/bathtub, useful for those cold winter nights when a good hot bath is desired--perhaps after shoveling snow or otherwise fighting the cold weather. I have found it a highly functional and useful apartment for one person over the years, with its main drawback is that dust tends to build up quite easily and quickly, especially in the winter--but which is counteracted at least somewhat with a good electrical air cleaner. A 10,000 B.T.U. air conditioner cools the entire place off in the summer quite efficiently and well. Heat can be turned off during the winter months in the kitchen and bedroom;while in the living room and bathroom it cannot be turned off during the winter months. It's a good place to live for the money and the city, and it's been a solid performer over the years for me enough to find that it has the "quality of home", while at the same time not ostentatiously large or luxuriously appointed. The stove and oven are run on natural gas and have worked consistently well over the 18 years I have lived there. The kitchen as a dual sink and storage space underneath, and wooden cabinet space is in the kitchen above the sink and stove area and underneath the sink and counter opposite the sink area. Once again, a solid performer in a number of important areas!
